What We Believe
We are an independent church seeking to glorify God. We choose to let the Bible define how we live and what we believe. Here is a summary of what we believe...
The Bible is the inspired, infallible, inerrant, absolute authority in all matters. God has preserved His Word throughout all of time. The preserved Word of God for English speakers is the King James Bible.
II Timothy 3:16, Matthew 5:18, Psalm 12:6-7
The God of the Bible is the one and only true God. God is one, consisting of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:19, I John 5:7, Deuteronomy 6:4, Genesis 1:26
The God of the Bible is the Creator of heaven, earth, and the entire universe. He spoke everything into existence out of nothing, creating it in six, 24 hour days. All events in Scripture are scientifically accurate and correct. Because He is man’s Creator, every person is accountable to God.
Colossians 1:14-18, Ephesians 3:9, Psalm 90:2, Genesis 1:1
The Lord Jesus Christ is God, and therefore is eternal and not a created being. He became man, miraculously born of a virgin, to redeem mankind from sin. He lived a perfect, sinless life, performed many literally recorded miracles, and fulfilled prophecy. His death on the cross, as our substitute, paid the price for our salvation. He physically rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will visibly return to rule and judge all mankind.
Titus 2:13, I Timothy 6:14-16, II Corinthians 5:21, I Corinthians 15:3-4, Philippians 2:10-11
The only way to have your sins forgiven, have peace with God, and be eternally saved, is when we as repentant sinners put our faith in Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. This spiritual “new birth” is a miracle of new life, wrought by the Holy Spirit, and is a once in a a life-time event. Man can do nothing to obtain salvation, for it is only by God’s grace. It is available to anyone willing to receive Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 1:7, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 1:12, Acts 20:21
It is impossible for a genuinely saved person to ever lose their salvation or walk away from it. A born-again person is eternally secure through God’s power.
I Peter 1:5, John 10:28-29, Romans 8:37-39, I John 5:13
Every born-again believer is indwelled, sealed, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. A saved person will have a growing desire to live holy (separated unto God).
Titus 2:11-12, Ephesians 1:13-14, Ephesians 3:20, I John. 3:3, I Peter 1:14-16
It is God’s will for every saved person to live a life that is pleasing in His sight, and demonstrates His character and values as revealed in the Bible. This includes areas like marriage, music, dress, entertainment, addictions, and all aspects of morality. It means to not get involved in the sinful activities and self-centred attitude of the world around us.
For our own protection, God wants Christians, as individuals and as a church, to separate (stay away) from false doctrines, false teachers, and any activity or association that would misrepresent Christ and bring shame to His holy name. In the Bible, God describes how a Christian can live a blessed, joyful life in close fellowship with God by following His standards in every area of life. We reject any form of self-righteous hypocrisy or unbiblical compromise.
1 Peter 1:15-16, 1 John 2:15-17, 2 John 1:7-9, 1 Thessalonians 5:22, Ephesians 5:27-27, 1 John 4:1-5, Titus 2:11-13, Philippians 1:27
The Bible teaches the imminent rapture of all born-again believers before the 7 year Tribulation Time. Since Christ’s ascension, Bible-believers have lived with the blessed hope and expectation of being taking away to heaven at any moment.
I Thessalonians 4:13-18, I Thessalonians 5:1-11, Romans 5:9
The Bible teaches a real, physical resurrection from the dead. Those that rejected Christ will suffer everlasting judgement in a real lake of fire. Those that accepted Christ will rise to everlasting life in a real heaven.
John 14:1-6, Luke 16:19-31, John 11:25-26, Revelation 20:12-21:27
A Story of God’s Faithfulness…
Capital City Baptist Church was founded in the summer of 1980 by Pastor Harold Jayne. He came as a missionary to Victoria. The church was offically organized on October 1, 1981 with 31 charter members. In 1988 our church called their first Pastor. Pastor Normand Lafleur was a career navy man who had been saved through the ministry of Capital City Baptist Church. After years of ministering in Victoria, he moved to Quebec to preach the Gospel.
Throughout the years God has used several men of God to minister to us and proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ in our city. We are grateful for God’s faithfulness over many years! The story of our church is a monument to God’s greatness, faithfulness, and provision.
Until 2017, Pastor Bill Carter faithfully pastored Capital City Baptist Church. In September 2017, the church family called our former assistant pastor, Timothy Janzen, to lead the ministry of Capital City Baptist Church.
Pastor Timothy Janzen and his wife, Mrs. Esther Janzen, together with their two young children, look forward to giving you a warm welcome as our guest at Capital City Baptist Church. We invite you to worship together with us! Come and listen to the preaching of God’s Word and the singing of up-lifting hymns. Together we will see God’s answers for the issues of our modern lives. The timeless truths of God’s preserved Word are exciting and helpful to every person, no matter their age or stage in life!
