Who we are...
Capital City Baptist Church (CCBC) is a community whose mission is to bring glory to God, and share the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ in our city, and world wide. We are a friendly, culturally diverse, Bible focused, unaffiliated Baptist church that simply wants you to experience the wonderful change God has made in our lives – cause everyone needs hope.
If you feel like something is missing in your life, and you are looking for hope, we invite you to be our guest this Sunday at 11am! Come and connect with people who genuinely care about you. We can’t wait to meet you!
The Bible is the inspired, infallible, inerrant, absolute authority in all matters. God has preserved His Word throughout all of time. The preserved Word of God for English speakers is the King James Bible.
2 Timothy 3:16, Matthew 5:18, Psalm 12:6-7
The God of the Bible is the one and only true God. God is one, consisting of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:19, I John 5:7, Deuteronomy 6:4, Genesis 1:26
The God of the Bible is the Creator of heaven, earth, and the entire universe. He spoke everything into existence out of nothing, creating it in six, 24-hour days. All events in Scripture are scientifically accurate and correct. Because He is man’s Creator, every person is accountable to God.
Colossians 1:14-18, Ephesians 3:9, Psalm 90:2, Genesis 1:1
The Lord Jesus Christ is God, and therefore is eternal and not a created being. He became man, miraculously born of a virgin, to redeem mankind from sin. He lived a perfect, sinless life, performed many literally recorded miracles, and fulfilled prophecy. His death on the cross, as our substitute, paid the price for our salvation. He physically rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will visibly return to rule and judge all mankind.
Titus 2:13, I Timothy 6:14-16, II Corinthians 5:21, I Corinthians 15:3-4, Philippians 2:10-11
The only way to have your sins forgiven, have peace with God, and be eternally saved, is when we as repentant sinners put our faith in Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. This spiritual “new birth” is a miracle of new life, wrought by the Holy Spirit, and is a once in a a life-time event. Man can do nothing to obtain salvation, for it is only by God’s grace. It is available to anyone willing to receive Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 1:7, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 1:12, Acts 20:21
It is impossible for a genuinely saved person to ever lose their salvation or walk away from it. A born again person is eternally secure through God’s power.
I Peter 1:5, John 10:28-29, Romans 8:37-39, I John 5:13
Every born-again believer is indwelled, sealed, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. A saved person will have a growing desire to live holy (separated unto God).
Titus 2:11-12, Ephesians 1:13-14, Ephesians 3:20, I John. 3:3, I Peter 1:14-16
It is God’s will for every saved person to live a life that is pleasing in His sight, and demonstrates His character and values as revealed in the Bible. This includes areas like marriage, music, dress, entertainment, addictions, and all aspects of morality. It means to not get involved in the sinful activities and self-centred attitude of the world that rejects God.
For our own protection, God wants Christians, as individuals and as a church, to separate (stay away) from false doctrines, false teachers, and any activity or association that would misrepresent Christ and bring shame to His holy name. In the Bible God describes how a Christian can live a blessed, joyful life in close fellowship with God by following His standards in every area of life. We reject any form of self-righteous hypocrisy or unbiblical compromise.
1 Peter 1:15-16, 1 John 2:15-17, 2 John 1:7-9, 1 Thessalonians 5:22, Ephesians 5:27-27, 1 John 4:1-5,
Titus 2:11-13, Philippians 1:27
The Bible teaches the imminent rapture of all born-again believers before the 7 year Tribulation Time. Since Christ’s ascension into heaven, Bible-believers have lived with the blessed hope and expectation of being taking away to heaven at any moment.
I Thessalonians 4:13-18, I Thessalonians 5:1-11, Romans 5:9
The Bible teaches a real, physical resurrection from the dead. Those that rejected Christ will suffer everlasting judgement in a real lake of fire. Those that accepted Christ will rise to everlasting life in a real heaven.
John 14:1-6, Luke 16:19-31, John 11:25-26, Revelation 20:12-21:27
Timothy Janzen is our pastor at Capital City Baptist Church. God saved him at the age of fourteen while living in Germany. After moving to Canada in 2009, he surrendered to serve his Saviour, and graduated from Canadian Baptist Bible College. After marrying his beautiful wife Esther, God has blessed them with two young children: Abigail and Isaiah. In 2017 the Capital City Baptist Church family asked the Janzens to move to Victoria, and Timothy became our pastor. They love living on the Island and are excited to serve our local community. Pastor Janzen enjoys biking, reading, going for walks, canoeing, family time, and most of all, exploring God’s Word.
Timothy’s and Esther’s passion is to reach our city, and all the world, with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Their vision is to bring help, hope and real answers to every person. Having personally experienced the power of God’s grace, forgiveness, and victory in Christ, Timothy’s desire for you is to experience God’s amazing faithfulness and power in your own life.
A Story of God's Faithfulness...
Capital City Baptist Church was founded in the summer of 1980 by Pastor Harold Jayne. The church was officially organized on October 1, 1981 with 31 charter members. In 1988 our church called Pastor Normand Lafleur to lead our church family. He was a career navy man who had been saved through the ministry of Capital City Baptist Church. After years of ministering in Victoria he moved to Quebec to preach the Gospel.
Throughout the years God has used different people to lead our team as we share the Good News of Jesus Christ in our city. We are grateful for God’s faithfulness over many years! The story of our church is a monument to God’s greatness, faithfulness, and provision. It has been God’s grace that has brought us through every victory and every trial throughout the years, as we continue to move forward with excitement for what He continues to do. Until 2017, Pastor Bill Carter pastored Capital City Baptist Church. In September 2017 the church family called our former assistant pastor, Timothy Janzen, to lead the ministry of Capital City Baptist Church. Pastor Timothy Janzen and his wife Esther, together with their two young children, look forward to giving you a warm welcome as our guest at Capital City Baptist Church. We invite you to worship together with us! Come and listen to the preaching of God’s Word and the singing of up-lifting hymns. Together we will see God’s answers for the issues of our modern lives. The timeless truths of God’s preserved Word are exciting and helpful to every person, no matter their age or stage in life.
